Spinal Decompression at Back On Track Chiropractic Downtown

What is Non-surgical Spinal Decompression?

Decompression tableNon-surgical spinal decompression (NSSD) slowly lengthens and decompresses the spine, creating negative pressures in the disks. This reversal of pressure creates an intradiscal vacuum that not only takes pressure off pinched nerves, but helps reposition discs and pull extruded material back into place. NSSD is promoted as safe and effective without the normal risks associated with invasive procedures such as injections, anesthesia or surgery.

How does it Work?

Spinal decompression utilizes a sophisticated method of cycling the patient through a series of pulls, holds, and releases. The super-smooth transitions between each phase of therapy make the treatment so relaxing that people not only tolerate the treatment well but often fall asleep.

For the low back issues the patient lies comfortably on his/her back on the decompression table, with a set of padded straps snug around the waist and another set around the chest. For neck problems, the patient lies comfortably on his/her back with a pair of soft rubber pads behind the neck. The negative pressure from the traction creates an osmotic gradient which helps bring nutrients and water into the disc.

The appeal of non-surgical spinal decompression is that it is a non-invasive, non-surgical, drug-free alternative treatment for low back pain, sciatica, disc degeneration, disc bulges, herniated discs, and facet syndrome.

  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Facet syndrome
  • Sciatica neuritis
  • Lumbar and cervical radiculopathy
  • Leg pain
  • Knee Pain
  • Osteoarthritis

How long is the treatment program?

It depends on the severity of your condition and extent of the rehabilitation needed, such as the presence of lumbar and cervical radiculopathy, Sciatica, etc.

Bulging or Herniated Disks – 10 to 25 Sessions

Degenerative Disk Disease – 5 to 10 Sessions

Visits are spread out over a 4 to 6 week period. Some people will get relief from one treatment while most will progressively improve over the course of the treatment program. For best results…stay consistent and follow the Doctor’s recommendations.
